One of the most powerful signs of learning is the ability to apply past knowledge to new situations. When youth recognize that skills learned in one activity can help them solve new challenges, learning becomes meaningful and transferable.

Adults can support this process by helping youth make connections between experiences. Asking questions such as “Have you seen something like this before?” or “How could what you learned yesterday help you here?” encourages youth to draw on previous knowledge.

These connections strengthen confidence and problem-solving skills. Youth begin to realize that learning builds over time and that each experience adds to their abilities.

Child Champions understand that learning is cumulative. By helping youth connect past experiences to new challenges, adults support deeper understanding and long-term growth.
