Leadership often begins with the ability to solve problems. Encouraging youth to take an active role in identifying solutions helps them develop confidence and responsibility.

Adults can support this by asking youth to suggest ideas when challenges arise. Questions such as “What do you think might help?” or “How could we improve this situation?” encourage youth to think creatively.

When youth contribute ideas and see those ideas implemented, they develop a sense of ownership and pride in their contributions.

Problem-solving leadership also strengthens teamwork because youth learn to collaborate and consider multiple perspectives.

Child Champions understand that leadership grows through experience. When youth are encouraged to help solve problems, they begin developing the confidence and decision-making skills needed to guide others.
