Recognizing the contributions of young people helps build confidence and strengthen their sense of belonging within a program.

Youth contribute in many ways—helping peers, sharing ideas, showing kindness, or completing tasks responsibly. When adults notice and acknowledge these efforts, youth feel valued and motivated to continue participating positively.

Recognition does not need to be elaborate. Simple statements such as “Thank you for helping organize the materials” or “I appreciate how you supported your teammate” reinforce positive behaviors.

Acknowledging contributions also encourages other youth to participate in similar ways.

Child Champions understand that recognition strengthens community and confidence. When youth know their efforts matter, they become more engaged, responsible, and motivated to contribute positively.
