Active and Engaged Learning
Active and engaged learning occurs when youth are involved physically, mentally, and emotionally in an activity. Rather than passively receiving information, they explore, create, and problem-solve. Adults design experiences that require participation and reflection, ensuring that learning is interactive and meaningful. Engagement increases when activities are relevant, hands-on, and connected to real-life skills. This approach supports attention and motivation by making learning dynamic. When youth are actively involved, they retain information more effectively and develop deeper understanding. Over time, active learning builds curiosity and confidence. Youth become more willing to ask questions and take initiative. Active and engaged learning transforms programs into environments where participation drives growth and where learning is something youth do, not just something they receive.
