Life often presents situations that require adjustment and creative thinking. Teaching youth to think flexibly helps them adapt when plans change or challenges arise.
Flexible thinking allows young people to consider multiple solutions to a problem rather than becoming frustrated when something does not work as expected. Adults can encourage this skill by asking questions such as, “What else could we try?” or “Is there another way to solve this?”
Activities that involve brainstorming, problem solving, or creative design provide opportunities for youth to practice flexible thinking.
Learning to adapt also strengthens resilience. When youth understand that change is part of life, they are better prepared to handle challenges calmly and thoughtfully.
Child Champions recognize that flexible thinking helps youth navigate uncertainty and develop innovative solutions in both learning and everyday situations.
