Youth Voice and Choice

Youth voice and choice means giving young people meaningful opportunities to express opinions and make decisions about their experiences. This practice shows respect for youth perspectives and builds engagement. When youth are invited to help shape activities, rules, or projects, they develop a sense of ownership and responsibility. Voice and choice do not mean eliminating adult guidance; they mean creating space for collaboration within clear boundaries. Adults support this by listening carefully, offering options, and explaining how decisions are made. When youth feel heard, they are more motivated to participate and cooperate. Over time, this practice strengthens confidence and communication skills. Youth learn that their ideas matter and that they can influence positive change. Youth voice and choice foster leadership and prepare young people to participate thoughtfully in their communities.
