June 13 – Encouraging Youth to Explore New Interests
Are you interested?
Youth development is strengthened when young people have opportunities to explore a wide variety of interests. Exposure to new activities helps youth discover talents they may not have realized they possessed.
Programs can provide opportunities for exploration through art, science, sports, technology, creative writing, or leadership activities. Each experience introduces youth to new skills and ideas.
Adults can encourage exploration by inviting youth to try activities they may not initially choose. Gentle encouragement often helps young people discover interests they did not expect to enjoy.
Exploring new interests also builds confidence. When youth try something unfamiliar and succeed, they begin to see themselves as capable learners.
By providing diverse opportunities for exploration, youth programs help young people discover passions and talents that may shape their future goals and aspirations.
