June 25 – Encouraging Youth to Reflect on Their Growth

Learning to reflect.

Reflection helps young people recognize the progress they have made and understand what they have learned. When youth take time to think about their experiences, learning becomes deeper and more meaningful.

Programs can encourage reflection through simple discussions at the end of activities. Asking questions such as “What did you learn today?” or “What part of this activity was most interesting?” helps youth consider their experiences.

Reflection also allows youth to identify challenges they faced and how they overcame them. Recognizing these moments helps build confidence and resilience.

Adults can guide reflection by listening carefully and encouraging youth to share their ideas with one another.

When reflection becomes a regular part of program activities, youth develop greater awareness of their growth. They begin to see learning as an ongoing journey filled with discovery and progress.
