June 7 – Help Youth Learn Conflict Resolution
Understanding Conflict.
Disagreements are a natural part of working and interacting with others. Learning how to resolve conflicts respectfully is an important life skill that youth can develop through guided practice.
Youth programs offer many opportunities for teaching conflict resolution. When disagreements arise, adults can help youth talk through the situation and consider the perspectives of others.
Encouraging youth to listen carefully, explain their feelings calmly, and work together toward solutions helps them learn how to handle conflicts constructively.
Adults can also model respectful problem-solving by remaining calm and fair during difficult situations. Youth observe these behaviors and begin to adopt similar approaches.
When young people learn conflict resolution skills, they gain tools that help them maintain friendships and build positive relationships. These skills also help youth navigate challenges in school and throughout their lives.
