June 21 –Helping Youth Learn the Power of Perseverance

Perseverance IS My Super Power.

Perseverance is the ability to continue working toward a goal even when challenges arise. Young people who develop perseverance learn that success often requires effort, patience, and determination.

Youth programs provide many opportunities for practicing perseverance. Whether youth are solving a difficult problem, building a project, or learning a new skill, the process often involves trying more than once.

Adults play an important role by encouraging youth to keep going when tasks become difficult. Offering positive feedback such as “You’re getting closer” or “Keep trying—you’re learning something important” helps youth stay motivated.

It is also helpful to remind youth that mistakes and setbacks are part of learning. When young people understand that challenges help them grow, they become more willing to persist.

Through perseverance, youth discover that their effort can lead to success. This understanding builds resilience and confidence that will support them throughout their lives.
