June 14 – Recognizing Acts of Kindness

Practicing Kindness.

Kindness has the power to transform a program environment. When youth recognize and practice kindness toward one another, the entire community becomes more welcoming and supportive.

Programs can encourage kindness by highlighting and celebrating positive actions. When a youth helps a peer, offers encouragement, or demonstrates compassion, acknowledging that behavior reinforces its importance.

Adults can model kindness by treating youth and colleagues with patience, respect, and understanding. These behaviors set the tone for how youth interact with one another.

Simple activities can also encourage kindness, such as sharing compliments, writing thank-you notes, or reflecting on acts of kindness during group discussions.

When kindness becomes part of program culture, youth feel safer, more supported, and more connected to their peers.
