June 9 – Supporting Youth Through Encouragement

Encouraging Words.

Encouragement can transform how young people view themselves and their abilities. When youth receive positive reinforcement from caring adults, they develop confidence and motivation to continue learning.

Encouragement focuses on recognizing effort and growth rather than perfection. Comments such as “I noticed how hard you worked on that project” help youth understand that persistence and determination are valuable.

Programs that emphasize encouragement create environments where young people feel comfortable trying new things. When youth know their efforts will be appreciated, they are more willing to explore unfamiliar activities and take positive risks.

Encouragement also strengthens relationships between youth and adults. When young people feel supported, they are more likely to trust adults and seek guidance when needed.

Through consistent encouragement, youth begin to see themselves as capable individuals who can overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
